The Peterborough Predators were involved in a high-scoring battle on Saturday night at Planet Ice, eventually falling 13–9 to the Coventry Centurions.

The Peterborough Predators were involved in a relentless, high-scoring battle on Saturday night, eventually falling 13–9 to the Coventry Centurions in a game that rarely paused for breath and saw momentum swing throughout.

The Predators made a dream start and opened the scoring at 4:32, as Harley Wardley finished neatly from a Jon Tiernan assist to put the home side 1–0 up. Just over a minute later, the lead was doubled on the powerplay when Shaun McLeavy struck at 5:39, assisted by Jonny Clements, giving Peterborough early control at 2–0.

Coventry responded quickly, with William Easley pulling one back at 6:42, before Cameron Howdie levelled the game at 14:10, assisted by Jake Hutchinson and Easley, sending the teams into the break tied at 2–2.

The second period exploded into life almost immediately. Coventry took their first lead of the night at 21:10 through Jake Hutchinson, but the Predators answered just over a minute later, as McLeavy grabbed his second of the game at 22:31, assisted by Simpson and Clements, to make it 3–3.

However, Coventry then seized control with a devastating run of goals. Jordon Leigh restored their advantage at 24:32 (3–4), before Russell Lee extended it at 26:19 (3–5). The pressure continued as Howdie added his second at 29:45 (3–6), and Leigh struck again at 33:41 to make it 3–7.

To their credit, the Predators responded immediately. Just 14 seconds later, Andy White scored at 33:55 to spark hope, and that momentum continued when James Price found the net at 34:29, closing the gap to 5–7. But Coventry had the final say in the period, as John Nurden scored shorthanded at 39:54 to give the visitors an 8–5 lead heading into the third.

The final period continued at a frantic pace. James Price struck again early at 40:34 to bring it back to 6–8, but Coventry responded almost instantly, with Leigh completing another goal at 40:55 to restore the three-goal cushion. Moments later, Howdie completed his hat-trick at 41:51, making it 6–10, before Mark Pick added another at 43:43 to stretch the lead to 6–11.

Despite the deficit, Peterborough refused to fold. Jonny Clements pulled one back at 48:32, assisted by McLeavy, and Jon Tiernan added another at 51:09 to reduce the deficit to 8–11 and give the home crowd renewed belief.

However, Coventry remained clinical in the closing stages, adding further goals to put the game beyond reach, eventually sealing a 13–9 victory in one of the most open and high-scoring contests of the season.
